    Full story (spoilers)
The story opens with Fashion Week buzz around Delaney Diaz, a once-famous designer footwear queen who is trying to regain her place at the top after a public fall from grace. Meanwhile, Addi Connors helps her father at the family shoe repair shop in Manhattan, where she quietly sketches her own designs and dreams of working in fashion. Her sister Claudia pushes her toward an opening at Delaney Diaz, and Addi reluctantly agrees to interview for a receptionist job. At Delaney's office, Addi quickly finds herself in over her head. A coffee spill and a chaotic first encounter with PR executive Austin Strickland lead to an impromptu shoe fix, and Austin is impressed by Addi's creativity and quick thinking. He gets her in front of Delaney, who is initially harsh and dismissive, but Addi is hired on a trial basis as Delaney's assistant. Addi is thrilled, though she immediately struggles with Delaney's exacting standards and the relentless pace of the office. As Addi learns the ropes, she begins to see both the pressure on Delaney and the stakes of the business. Austin explains that Delaney is fighting a hostile buyout from Franco Chaussure, and Fashion Week is their last chance to win buyers and save the brand. Addi proves useful with her upbeat energy and practical problem-solving, and she and Austin grow closer through shared work, including an art opening, a whispered publicity stunt, and other schemes to revive Delaney's image. Addi also starts to realize that Austin sees her talent more clearly than she does herself. The situation blows up when a press release goes out featuring one of Addi's sketches under Delaney's name. A reporter seizes on it and accuses Delaney of stealing designs again, turning the event into a scandal and feeding the narrative that Delaney is a has-been. Delaney feels betrayed, cancels the show, and fires Addi, while Austin wrongly believes Addi slipped her own work into the campaign as a career move. Addi returns home devastated and learns that she has hurt her family by missing Ruby's birthday and Sunday dinner, forcing her to confront how badly she has been neglecting the people and values that keep her grounded. Addi eventually uncovers that Claudia accidentally placed her sketch notebook where the design team could find it, creating the whole mess. She returns to Delaney determined to fix things and argues that the company can still recover if Delaney embraces who she really is. Delaney resists at first, but Addi reminds her that her strongest designs come from her original, bold vision and from the people of the city she used to sketch on the train. Inspired, Delaney begins to design again, and Addi's family steps in to help produce the shoes in time for the show. On the night of Fashion Week, Delaney walks the runway in the revived collection, the show becomes a hit, and buyers flood in, saving the brand from Franco Chaussure's takeover. Delaney publicly promotes Addi as a new designer, Austin launches his own PR venture, and the two finally acknowledge their feelings with a promising first date. By the end, Addi has earned her place in fashion without losing her heart or her family.
