    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist is a literal angel who has existed for centuries
    • Angelic 'vanishing' acts occur throughout the film
    • The protagonist uses supernatural 'feelings' to locate a missing person
    • The 'Little Mermaid' style ending where she trades her wings for a mortal life with a man she met two weeks ago

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Gabby and her angelic supervisor, Michael, observing a couple at an airport; Gabby admits to stealing a plane ticket to ensure the couple stayed together, prompting Michael to lecture her on the importance of 'free will.' Michael then assigns Gabby to Angel Falls, a town that has lost its holiday joy since the closure of its paper mill. Gabby takes a job as the volunteer coordinator at St. Andrew's Church under Pastor Howard and Deacon Gloria. She soon meets Jack Avery, the town's fire chief and hardware store owner, who is helping repair her new apartment. Gabby discovers that the town's beloved Christmas pageant and potluck were cancelled because the community centre was shuttered due to safety concerns and a lack of funding. As Gabby works to recruit volunteers, she encounters various townspeople struggling with grief and resentment: Alice, a teenager mourning her father Paul (Jack's best friend who died in a fire); Gloria and Dolores, former friends who feuded over a business disagreement; and Mayor Joe Crosby, who has given up on town traditions. Gabby encourages Alice to use her tech skills to build a town website and helps Dolores and Gloria reconcile through the shared beauty of Christmas poinsettias. Jack reveals to Gabby that he was the one who officially closed the community centre; as fire chief, he is haunted by the fire that killed Paul and is terrified of another tragedy. When Alice goes missing after a period of deep depression, Gabby uses her supernatural intuition to find her at the pier, where she helps the girl process her grief. This event brings Jack and Gabby closer, leading Jack to confess that Gabby is the best thing that has ever happened to him. However, Michael informs Gabby that her assignment is over and she must leave, warning her that once she departs, the townspeople will lose all memory of her. During the successful revival of the Christmas pageant, Gabby realizes she cannot leave Jack. Invoking the rule of 'free will,' she tells Michael she wishes to become human. Michael reveals that this was a 'special assignment' designed for her to make this choice. Gabby becomes mortal, reunites with Jack, and they confess their love for one another as the town celebrates its restored spirit.
