As Luck Would Have It

Lindsey Johnson is a successful acquisitions manager for the Krispen Group in New York, known for her ability to close difficult deals. Her boss, Mr. Krispen, sends her to Kilabbey, Ireland, to acquire Ballydonal Castle, a property the company intends to raze to build a modern resort. Upon arrival, Lindsey meets Brennan, a local whiskey maker and the castle's unofficial guardian, who catches her 'snooping' on the grounds. At a town council meeting, Lindsey's pitch is flatly rejected by the head councilman, Alroy, and the rest of the board, who refuse to sell to anyone intending to destroy the castle. To bridge the cultural gap, Lindsey decides to stay for the week-long Matchmaking Festival, participating in traditional activities like soda bread baking, hurling, and knitting to show the council she is 'invested' in the community. As the week progresses, Lindsey and Brennan spend more time together. Brennan teaches her the nuances of Irish life and whiskey making, while Lindsey helps him tidy the castle for the festival's closing party. A significant emotional turning point occurs when Brennan takes Lindsey to find her grandmother's ancestral home; though the house is gone, the journey helps Lindsey connect with her roots. Meanwhile, the town council faces a budget deficit, and Alroy privately admits to Lindsey that they may be forced to sell the land to save the town's finances. Lindsey, now conflicted, attempts to create a 'hybrid' proposal that preserves the castle structure while building the resort around it. The conflict peaks when Brennan discovers the council is seriously considering Lindsey's offer, feeling betrayed by both the council and Lindsey. At the festival's grand finale, Mr. Krispen arrives in Kilabbey. He rejects Lindsey's preservation-focused 'hybrid' plan, citing high costs, and decides to pursue a cheaper site in Dublin instead. Realizing she no longer fits into the 'tear it down and move on' corporate world, Lindsey returns to New York and quits her job. She joins a different firm focused on historical preservation and returns to Kilabbey with a new proposal to restore the castle. She reconciles with Brennan, revealing that her grandmother's ring was actually made in Kilabbey, and the film ends with the two beginning a relationship as they work together to save the town's landmark.
