Anything for Love

Katherine Benson is a successful, workaholic real estate executive in Chicago who feels men are intimidated by her power or only interested in her money. Her assistant, Debbie, encourages her to try an online dating service using Debbie's name and job title as an alias to find someone who likes her for her personality rather than her wealth. Meanwhile, Jack Cooper, a dedicated registered nurse, struggles with the dating scene because he believes women only value the status of doctors. His friend Reggie, a hospital orderly, secretly changes Jack's profile to 'Doctor' to help him attract matches. Katherine and Jack match and meet for a bowling date. Katherine, posing as an assistant, is charmed by Jack's sincerity, while Jack, posing as a cardiologist, is impressed by Katherine's down-to-earth nature. However, both are trapped in their lies; Jack even receives credit for a medical miracle involving quintuplets that he didn't actually perform. The situation escalates when Jack visits Katherine at her office, forcing Katherine to pretend to be the assistant while Debbie pretends to be the boss in a frantic role-reversal charade. The romance blossoms during a trip to Jack's cabin in Lake Geneva, though Katherine suffers a psychosomatic 'allergic reaction' to the stress of her deception. The turning point occurs when Katherine's father, Edward, has a minor heart attack and is admitted to Chicago West, the hospital where Jack works. Katherine lies to Jack about which hospital her father is in to avoid a collision of their secret lives. Charles, a business associate of Edward's who wants to marry Katherine for her company, becomes suspicious and hires a private investigator. Charles discovers Jack is a nurse and exposes the lie in a dramatic confrontation at the hospital in front of Katherine and her father. Simultaneously, Jack realizes Katherine is the wealthy executive he's been hearing about. Both feel betrayed and part ways. Ultimately, Katherine realizes she loves Jack for his 'gist' and character, not his title. She breaks things off with the opportunistic Charles and confronts her father about her right to choose her own partner. In the climax, Katherine uses the hospital's PA system to deliver a 'love emergency' page to Jack. They reconcile in the hallway, promising to tell each other the truth from then on.
