    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens on the birthday of Nonna Campisi at Il Cibo è Vita, a once-renowned Italian restaurant on Bainbridge Island. Elizabeth Campisi, the widow of the restaurant's founder, Chef Marco, is struggling to maintain the business's high standards and financial stability three years after Marco's passing. Richard, the majority owner and a real estate investor, informs Elizabeth that the restaurant is failing and he has hired Ben Elliott, a world-class restaurant consultant, to turn things around. Elizabeth is immediately defensive, fearing Ben will strip away Marco's legacy. Ben arrives and meets Elizabeth at an Artisan Festival, where they have a lighthearted encounter over hazelnut fudge before realizing their professional connection. Ben’s initial observations suggest streamlining the menu and opening the kitchen to the public, ideas that Elizabeth and the head chef, Antonio—Marco's protégé—strongly resist. As Ben spends more time at the restaurant, he encourages Antonio to stop cooking Marco's old recipes and start creating his own. A turning point occurs during a 'Monday Dinner,' a staff tradition at Elizabeth's home. Ben is invited and discovers that Elizabeth is a talented baker who has suppressed her skills since Marco's death. He also learns that Ben himself is a widower of sorts, having lost his fiancée years prior. The stakes are raised when Richard reveals he has a buyer for the restaurant and Elizabeth has only three weeks to secure a bank loan to buy him out. To prove the restaurant's value to the bank, Ben convinces a reluctant Antonio to enter the 'Battle of Bainbridge' culinary competition. Elizabeth also agrees to provide the desserts, marking her return to professional baking. During the competition, the Cibo team faces a technical mishap with their burners but is saved by the sportsmanship of a rival team. Although they lose the official trophy to a Michelin-starred San Francisco team, they win the 'popular vote' when a guest judge and the crowd rave about their food, causing the restaurant to go viral on social media. Despite this success, a misunderstanding occurs when Ben overhears Elizabeth telling a banker that she no longer 'needs' him, referring to his professional services. Ben prepares to leave for a new job in Greece without a proper goodbye. Realizing she loves him, Elizabeth chases him to the ferry. They confess their feelings, acknowledging that while they will always honor their past loves, they are ready for a future together. The film concludes with the staff and Nonna pooling their resources to become partners in the restaurant, ensuring it remains a family business.
