    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Cassandra 'Cass' McKay winning a legal case by exposing a witness's colorblindness, establishing her as a brilliant but intense attorney. At home, her children, Emma and Quinn, have just scared off their fifth nanny in six months. Meanwhile, Matthew Walker returns from nine months of sailing. His father, Charles, wants him to settle down and stop a condo development at the local marina. Charles and Cass's mother, Vivian, hatch a plan: if Matthew can commit to a job as Cass's nanny, Charles will reconsider the marina project. Initially, Cass is horrified at the idea of hiring a man who 'shoves off to sea' on a whim, but she is desperate. Matthew moves in and immediately clashes with Cass's hyper-organized 'weekly agenda' board. He begins to win over the children by building a climbing wall for Quinn to help with his confidence and encouraging Emma's interest in the electric violin. A subplot involves Cass's high-stakes case for tech billionaire Adam Haskey; her colleague Henry tries to push her toward a partnership while also showing romantic interest. Matthew creates a 'Paris' night in the backyard for Emma, which leads to a moment of emotional vulnerability for Cass. However, the relationship sours when Cass discovers Matthew only took the job to win a bet/deal with his father regarding the marina. Feeling her children were used as pawns, she fires him. In the climax, Cass is expected at a career-defining gala for Adam Haskey, but she realizes her children need her more. She skips the gala to attend Emma's talent show. When Emma freezes on stage, Matthew appears with bongos to provide a beat, helping her succeed. The film concludes with Charles announcing he will restore the marina instead of developing it, and Matthew and Cass reconciling as he moves on from being the 'manny' to a romantic partner.
