    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist's job is essentially professional stalking for hire.
    • Victoria tells a graphic story about a murder-suicide and a hanging to explain the history of her house.
    • The secondary romance between the ex-boyfriend and the socialite is bonded over ASMR videos of boiling water.
    • Tom's opening narration treats snowflake birth with scientific intensity usually reserved for nature documentaries.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Tom Jacobs narrating the precise movements of snowflakes in Chicago, establishing his role as an 'architect of dreams' who finds perfect gifts for people. Known as 'Mr. Christmas,' Tom is approached by his former fraternity brother, Paul Welch, who feels his relationship with his girlfriend Jenny is in a rut. Paul hires Tom to find a 'grand gesture' gift, but because Paul knows so little about Jenny's inner life, Tom insists on meeting her. Tom poses as a consultant and event planner, agreeing to help Jenny organize a holiday benefit for her family shelter non-profit. As they work together, Tom uses his 'research' skills to uncover Jenny's deepest desires, including her longing for the Chicago blues music her late father, Robert Stone, used to play before he died in a car accident. Their collaboration takes them to the mansion of Victoria Stolle, a wealthy client of Tom's, who provides the venue for the event. During a tour, Victoria recounts a surprisingly dark legend about the Great Chicago Fire involving a murder-suicide, which Jenny finds romantic. As Tom and Jenny spend more time together—including a 'pizza tour' of Chicago—their chemistry grows, culminating in a kiss. Meanwhile, Paul remains oblivious and work-obsessed, eventually telling Jenny he wants five children, a future she hasn't agreed to. The conflict peaks when Paul, sensing Jenny pulling away, impulsively proposes to her; she declines, realizing her feelings for Tom. However, the romance is shattered when Victoria accidentally reveals Tom's true profession to Jenny. Feeling exploited and believing their entire connection was merely 'research,' Jenny bars Tom from the charity event. To redeem himself, Tom works with a record store owner to track down a rare, signed album by Jenny's father's band, 'Robert Stone and the Chicago Fire.' At the climax of the benefit, Tom surprises Jenny by bringing her father's old bandmate, Sam, to perform. He presents her with the rare record and her father's old lighter, confessing his love and promising to be honest. The film concludes with Jenny forgiving Tom and deciding to stay in Chicago, while the jilted Paul finds an unexpected connection with Victoria over their shared interest in ASMR videos.
