Full story (spoilers)
Georgia Kimmel is struggling to keep Glendi Creative, the branding and marketing startup she founded with Rose, financially afloat. Their biggest opportunity is a demanding account with Madeleine Jewelers, but Georgia is creatively blocked and distracted by grief over her late Aunt Margaret. A delayed inheritance notice reveals that Margaret left Georgia a house in Corfu, but Georgia must appear in person for the will reading within days or forfeit the inheritance. She hopes to sell the property to fund the company's loan payments. Georgia arrives in Corfu after a long journey and reconnects with Elena Marini at the family restaurant, where Margaret had arranged for Georgia's meals to be covered. At Margaret's house, Georgia is surprised to see Alex, the boy she met during a summer abroad twenty years earlier. Alex explains that Margaret left half of the house to him because he cared for her as her handyman, gardener, chauffeur, and friend. Cora Stelios, the inheritance lawyer, says that an international property transfer could take six months because Georgia is not Greek, while Alex needs to move into the house immediately and cannot afford to wait. Alex proposes that they marry to simplify the property transfer and establish the required residency more quickly. Although both consider the plan absurd, Georgia's business crisis and Alex's financial situation leave them few alternatives. They marry in a hurried courthouse ceremony, complete with vows, a too-small ring, and a surprise wedding reception organized by Elena and the local community. Georgia also learns that Alex's supposedly demanding girlfriend, Cassandra, is actually his spoiled and affectionate cat. As the pair begins living together, their old friendship and staged domesticity start to feel increasingly genuine. Georgia and Alex explore Corfu, visit the Achilleion Palace and its statues, share local food, and discuss Margaret's philosophy of finding one's glendi, or personal celebration and happiness. Georgia encourages Alex to pursue his dream of becoming a detective, even helping him present himself to Theo Siafaris, the owner of the Apollo Investigation Team, during a cricket match. Alex plays brilliantly, and Georgia's enthusiastic support helps create an opportunity for him. During a dinner with Theo and Sofia, Alex admits that his marriage to Georgia began as a legal arrangement. His honesty impresses Theo, who hires him as an agent. As Alex's career begins to take shape, Georgia realizes that her feelings for him are no longer pretend. She also helps Elena imagine a new future after the death of her husband by suggesting that she turn her love of cooking into classes for locals and tourists. Georgia and Alex nearly swim through the Canal d'Amour, a place associated with eternal love, but Georgia becomes frightened by the emotional meaning of the act and pulls away. Soon afterward, Christos Angelopoulos from the land registry arrives for the surprise interview, approves the property transfer, and Alex wires Georgia the money she needs. A mandatory cooling-off period begins, leaving them with only ten days before their annulment can become official. Still in Corfu, Georgia learns from Rose that Madeleine Jewelers has offered Glendi Creative a two-year extension. She asks to keep working remotely because Corfu has restored her creativity and sense of self. Alex begins his first day at the detective agency while still grieving the impending loss of Georgia. Georgia then calls and asks him to meet her at the Canal d'Amour. They swim through the cave together, confess their love, and decide that Georgia will continue working remotely while they build a real life together in Corfu.
