Opening
The Dead Letter Office team meets over brunch and examines a decades-old letter found at the former Denver club Starmaker's, discovering clues about a woman, the moon, and an unseen connection to Nate Holloway's music.
Inciting incident
The team decodes the letter as a message from a hidden singer who references a song that had not yet been released, suggesting the writer is tied to Nate Holloway and may be in danger.
Rising action
Oliver and the team travel to Las Vegas to question Nate Holloway, who reveals that a woman named Tracy Reo was the real songwriter behind his early material and that she vanished after a fight in Denver.
Midpoint
The investigation reveals that Tracy Reo is really Lily Conley, who has been living under multiple identities to hide from the fallout of her father's bank robbery and to protect her mother and sister.
Conflict escalates
Oliver traces Lily's mother to organist Margot Hope, actually Camille Conley, and must decide whether to report a fugitive or honor Lily's plea to protect her family until Amber turns eighteen.
Climax
Oliver delivers Lily's letter and money to Camille, who asks for one more brief reprieve before surrendering, and the family is briefly reunited at the restored Starmaker's gala where Lily sings to her mother one last time.
Resolution
Camille is turned in after the reunion, Oliver and Joe reconcile over the meaning of fatherhood, Shane and Oliver prepare for their baby, and the film ends on a note of gratitude, family, and new beginnings.
