Love Under the Rainbow

The film opens with Lucy Taylor and her sister Dana planning a surprise 40th anniversary party for their parents, Paul and Mary. Lucy is a single teacher who claims she is too busy for a relationship, while Jack Evans and his daughter Sophie arrive in Ocean Hill to start over after the death of Sophie's mother. Their first encounter is a classic 'meet-cute' at a coffee shop where Lucy accidentally spills a grande coconut mocha on Jack. The awkwardness intensifies when Jack discovers Lucy is Sophie's new teacher. Sophie, who associates rainbows with her late mother, decides to focus her science fair project on 'chasing rainbows,' leading Lucy to provide extra support and materials, such as a prism. As Lucy and Jack spend more time together, including a group run and a tour of the local aquarium, they grapple with their pasts. Lucy is 'picky' and afraid of being hurt, while Jack is paralyzed by the fear of losing someone else he cares about. Lucy's father, Paul, constantly uses baseball metaphors to encourage her to 'get on base' with Jack. Meanwhile, Jack's coworker Kevin acts as a sounding board, pushing Jack to stop 'fudging the truth' about his feelings. The conflict reaches a head when Jack is offered a prestigious position in Miami and Sophie has an emotional breakdown during a school field trip, overwhelmed by the memory of her mother. Jack initially decides to move to Miami to protect Sophie from the emotional weight of Ocean Hill, but after a heart-to-heart with Kevin and Lucy's father, he realizes he is running away from a second chance at love. During the parents' surprise anniversary party at Queen's Park—the same place they were married—Dana's water breaks, and Jack uses his truck to rush her to the hospital. This moment of crisis solidifies his connection to Lucy's family. After the birth of Lucy's niece, Grace, Jack finds Lucy at the park and confesses that he turned down the Miami job to stay in Ocean Hill. He presents her with a coconut mocha and declares his commitment. The film concludes with Lucy, Jack, and Sophie witnessing a rare 'moonbow' (a lunar rainbow), fulfilling Sophie's wish for a new family and Lucy's childhood 'wedding wish' book dreams.
