    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The protagonist is nicknamed 'Christmas Carol' and described as 'Santa on steroids.'
    • A Christmas tree is graphically described as 'roadkill' after being hit by a semi-truck.
    • The 'Sloppy Stroganoff' culinary disaster.
    • A variety show featuring a 'unicycling juggler and a hula-hooping elf' as a serious artistic compromise.

    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Carol Montgomery hosting a massive Thanksgiving dinner, establishing her reputation as 'Christmas Carol,' a woman obsessed with holiday traditions and the school's annual Christmas Spectacular. Meanwhile, Terry Evans and his daughter Amelia move to town for Terry's new job as a construction supervisor for a hotel project. Their first encounter is a 'meet-clash' when Terry accidentally cuts Carol off in traffic, causing her prized 'noble' Christmas tree to fly off her car and get crushed by a semi-truck. The conflict intensifies at a PTA meeting where Terry, wanting to be more involved in Amelia's life, suggests turning Carol's traditional Christmas Spectacular into a modern variety show. Principal Higgins appoints them as co-chairs, forcing them to work together. A secondary conflict arises when Carol discovers Terry is the man responsible for tearing down the town's historic library to build a modern hotel. Despite their professional friction, their children, Bryan and Amelia, become close friends and study partners, forcing the parents to spend time together. During a 'working dinner,' Carol teaches the cooking-impaired Terry how to make a meal, and they begin to bond over their shared experiences as single parents—Carol being divorced and Terry a widower. They eventually compromise on the show's theme: 'Christmas Past, Present, and Future.' As the deadline for the library demolition approaches, Terry's boss, Penelope, pressures him to bypass legal petitions and demolish the building early. However, inspired by Carol's passion, Terry creates a new architectural plan that incorporates the library's historic features into the hotel design, satisfying both his company and the preservation society. In the climax, Terry is offered a career-making promotion in San Francisco, with a crucial meeting scheduled at the same time as the Christmas Spectacular. Though he initially goes to the meeting, he realizes he has been 'chasing tomorrows' at the expense of 'today' and leaves to watch Amelia's performance. The film concludes with Bryan performing a saxophone solo, Terry and Carol confessing their feelings, and the two families celebrating together, with Terry deciding to stay in town for the year-long hotel project.
