    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • A cockatoo named Greta repeatedly says cryptic phrases like a clue-bearing witness.
    • Counterfeit-money components are hidden inside vintage encyclopedia volumes and a kaleidoscope.
    • A fake buyer uses the alias O. Henry, echoing a famous writer.
    • A GPS-tracked pet bird becomes part of the investigation.

    Full story (spoilers)
Jennifer Shannon and her family are helping out around a police auction of seized property when the event begins to unravel. Her son Logan wants a project car, Hannah is buried in midterms, and Jennifer is juggling the auction, her antique shop, and Miles Wexford’s increasingly odd behavior. Miles quietly asks Jennifer to bid on a few items for him and buy them back at a markup, suggesting he is in financial trouble and trying to stay afloat. Not long after the auction, Miles is found dead and the police initially think it is suicide. Jennifer notices details that do not fit: his claimed wrist injury seems off, his story about selling his coin collection does not match what is actually left behind, and the alcohol-and-pill death looks staged. Detective Lynwood and Dr. Trammel eventually confirm that Miles was murdered, not self-destructive, and Jennifer starts tracing who might have wanted him silenced. The auction inventory becomes the key to the case. Jennifer and Frank discover that the items Miles had circled on the auction sheets were originally seized from Derrick Quinn, a convicted counterfeiter who had stolen U.S. Mint materials. The encyclopedia volumes turn out to contain currency-grade paper, a kaleidoscope points to more hidden components, and a buyer using the fake name O. Henry appears to be trying to reclaim Quinn’s seized property. Justin Wilkes also emerges as a dangerous money man because Miles is buried in gambling debt. The case deepens when Irene Fessler, the polished event planner brought in to manage the auction, disappears and is later found murdered in a cargo van tied to the auction property. Jennifer and Frank connect Irene to Quinn, to Quinn’s lawyer Thomas Kaine, and to a wider criminal network orbiting Colin McPhee. They also realize that Miles may have been forced to help steer the right seized items toward the wrong people in exchange for protection from his debts. Jennifer keeps following the small clues left behind by the bird Greta, including a song and the bird’s unusual reactions, and uses those clues to identify where the remaining contraband is hidden. The missing printing components are found in a storage facility, and the final confrontation exposes the people who have been using the auction to retrieve and assemble the counterfeiting materials. In the end, the scheme collapses, the family relaxes back into its usual rhythm, and Logan’s car project resolves with a meaningful reunion for a Vietnam veteran whose old Mustang comes back into his life.
