Opening
Audrey is introduced as a sarcastic, exhausted caretaker trying to hold together a household that includes Marguerite and Bess's children, Ty and Charlotte, while also dealing with church groups, funerals, and constant household chaos.
Inciting incident
Terry Lloyd returns to town after years away, and Missy immediately begins nudging Audrey toward him, revealing that Terry is interested and still available after losing his wife.
Rising action
Terry keeps showing up in Audrey's life through fishing, friendly visits, and invitations, while Audrey resists his attention but cannot quite hide the old chemistry between them.
Midpoint
Audrey and Terry spend time together at the river and on a picnic, where their banter turns intimate and they share a first kiss that briefly lets Audrey feel hopeful again.
Conflict escalates
Audrey and Missy clash over Marguerite's care, Audrey fights Terry's attempt to get her to open up, and the story makes clear that Audrey's stubbornness is rooted in grief and fear of losing control.
Climax
Terry helps the children talk about their mother and their grief, and Audrey finally admits that she has been carrying guilt and pain for too long and that she needs to let joy back into the family.
Resolution
Terry's butterfly bushes bloom, Audrey calls him and acknowledges what she feels, and the family ends in a renewed sense of hope, togetherness, and romantic possibility.
