The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • The recurring gag about a man wearing a shirt that says 'I sell boneless chicken'
    • Russ's intense, irrational hatred of olives, calling them 'evil'
    • The protagonist getting motion sickness and nearly vomiting while filming a cooking segment on a boat

    Full story (spoilers)
The film begins with Anna working as a dedicated prep cook for Dean, a high-maintenance celebrity chef whose show focuses on fine dining. As the crew prepares to film in Portugal, Dean stays behind to play hardball with the network over his contract, leaving the production in limbo. Producer Hope decides to proceed with filming B-roll and segments using Anna as a placeholder, intending to splice Dean in later. Anna is initially terrified and tries to mimic Dean’s rigid, scripted style, which results in awkward footage. However, she meets Lucas, a local market manager who introduces her to the authentic heart of Portuguese cuisine. Encouraged by Russ, the show's Australian cameraman and Anna's long-time friend, Anna decides to abandon the script and take the cameras into the streets, markets, and even onto a fishing boat. Despite a bout of seasickness while cooking on the water, Anna's genuine passion for food shines through, and the network executives are impressed by the new direction. A romantic subplot develops as Lucas shows interest in Anna, but she later discovers his intentions are transactional when he uses a 'date' to pitch his own restaurant to the show's producers. Meanwhile, the tension between Anna and Russ grows as they navigate their 'best mate' status and a past failed romantic attempt. The conflict reaches a climax when Dean arrives in Portugal, sees that Anna has effectively taken over his show, and fires her in an ego-driven rage. The crew, led by Russ and Brooklyn, refuses to let Anna's talent go to waste and secretly films a pilot for her own show at a stunning palace. In a surprising twist, Dean recognizes Anna's undeniable talent and vouches for her to the network. The film concludes with Anna being offered her own travel cooking series, 'A Sous in Sevilla,' and she and Russ finally confess their love and share a kiss overlooking the Portuguese landscape.
