    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with a flashback to a childhood Christmas concert where young Christie Reynolds is set to sing a solo of 'Silent Night.' Her rival, Penny Miller, aggressively steals her lines and sings over her, sparking a lifelong enmity. In the present day, both women are teachers at the same school in Greenville, still locked in a constant state of one-upmanship. The arrival of James Thomson, a handsome widower who has moved to town to open the 'Center of Hope' charity, provides a new battlefield. Both Christie and Penny immediately begin competing for his attention, with Penny flaunting her 'life-sized snow globe' and extensive volunteer record. When the school announces the first annual Teacher Christmas Cookie Bake-Off with a cash prize for a class trip, the rivalry intensifies. Despite being a notoriously terrible baker—a fact her mother Beverly gently confirms—Christie signs up just to spite Penny. Christie begins tutoring James's daughter, Lily, which allows her to spend more time with him. Discovering Christie's lack of culinary skill, James, who is a secret master chef, offers to give her private baking lessons. They bond over the 'sweet and salty' secret to perfect caramel, and a romance begins to bloom. Meanwhile, Penny grows increasingly jealous and suspicious of their closeness. As the bake-off progresses through various rounds, Christie manages to advance despite Penny's attempts at sabotage, including an incident where Penny knocks over Christie's tray of truffles. Before the final round, Penny discovers James's private, handwritten cookbook and steals a recipe for 'Peppermint Drops,' planting it among Christie's things to make it look like she cheated. In the final round, Christie presents her cookies and wins the competition. However, James recognizes the recipe as his own and, believing Christie only used him to win the contest, leaves the festival heartbroken. Realizing that her obsession with beating Penny has cost her something far more valuable, Christie has a change of heart. She reconciles with Penny, admitting that their decades-long grudge was foolish. At the festival's closing ceremony, Christie publicly donates her prize money to James's Center of Hope, proving her growth. Moved by Christie's selflessness, Penny confesses to James that she was the one who planted the recipe. James finds Christie and apologizes for doubting her. The movie concludes with the two confessing their feelings and sharing a kiss as the town celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.
