The Mistletoe
3 movies
The Mistletoe is less a series than a trio of standalone Hallmark Christmas romances that share a title theme and a source author, Richard Paul Evans, rather than any characters. Each one takes a guarded protagonist, drops them into a holiday situation they did not sign up for, and thaws them out by the credits. No recurring leads, no connective plot, just three separate cynic-meets-Christmas stories under one umbrella.
The casts turn over completely from film to film. Jaime King and Luke Macfarlane front The Mistletoe Promise, Alicia Witt and David Alpay carry The Mistletoe Inn, and Kellie Pickler and Tyler Hynes lead The Mistletoe Secret. The run spans 2016 to 2019, the meat of Hallmark's mid-decade comfort era, and the ratings cluster in the low-to-mid 6s. What ties them together is a strong central premise in each, a contract, a writing retreat, an undercover travel feature, that gives the romance somewhere specific to live. Three films, three couples, three flavors of holiday holdout.
The Mistletoe movies in order
Fully standalone with no shared characters, so watch in any order. We list them by release year for simplicity.
- 1

The Mistletoe Promise(2016)
The 2016 opener, rated 6.6, and the highest-rated of the three. Two self-declared Christmas-haters, Elise and Nick, sign an actual legally binding contract to pose as a couple through the holidays, each needing the arrangement for their own reasons, hers to fend off a manipulative ex, his to look like the family man his law firm wants for partner. Jaime King and Luke Macfarlane play the fake daters, and the fun is the paperwork curdling into real feeling. The strongest premise in the set.
- 2

The Mistletoe Inn(2017)
From 2017, rated 6.4. After getting dumped for not being a serious enough writer, aspiring novelist Kim signs up for a week-long writing retreat at the Mistletoe Inn in Vermont and gets paired with Zeke, a prickly fellow writer who pushes her to find her own voice. There is a reclusive famous author hiding among the guests, which gives the week a low simmer of mystery. Alicia Witt and David Alpay lead. The cozy, snowed-in, writer's-block one.
- 3

The Mistletoe Secret(2019)
The 2019 entry, rated 6.3. Diner owner Aria is pinning her struggling Utah town's survival on landing a spot in a travel feature, just as the show's ghostwriter, Alex, arrives undercover to scout the place and starts falling for both the town and her. The complication: his flashier, credit-grabbing boss is about to show up. Kellie Pickler and Tyler Hynes headline, with Patrick Duffy in support. The most small-town-saves-itself of the three.
