    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • A Christmas romance is driven by a citywide search app and anonymous holiday radio messages.
    • A dress label becomes the key clue that reunites the couple.
    • The leads try to locate each other using a chain of Christmas traditions instead of actual contact information.

    How it all plays out

    Full story (spoilers)
On a delayed holiday trip to Chicago, Annie and Dave are forced to spend the night together at the Chateau Marc Hotel. What starts as polite airport-hotel small talk turns into an all-night connection over careers, family memories, Christmas traditions, and the feeling that they have met someone unusually special. By morning they have grown close enough to feel like they do not want to say goodbye, but neither of them has thought to exchange contact information. When Annie wakes up late, Dave is gone and the flight is about to leave. She realizes she does not even know his last name or room number, only that he is from Chicago and that he seemed perfect. Dave also misses his chance to reconnect, and the two are separated by a chain of delays, miscommunication, and bad timing that leaves Annie scrambling to locate him before Christmas. Annie launches a search with help from friends and by posting on Chance Connections, while Dave starts building a list of Christmas clues from everything Annie told him the night before. Their search moves through Chicago’s holiday world: Margie’s Kettle, a Christmas house in Evanston, a church that sings Silent Night by candlelight, the Christmas market, and family celebrations that keep redirecting them. Along the way, Annie rediscovers her love of sketching and sewing, while Dave is reminded that planning every detail is not the same as living. Both leads are dealing with grief and pressure at home. Annie is trying to make the first Christmas without her father feel perfect for her mother and sister, and Dave is doing the same for his mother and sister Violet while also carrying the legacy of his late father’s joyful Christmas traditions. Their respective families push them gently toward honesty: Annie needs to stop treating her creative dream like a hobby, and Dave needs to stop letting perfectionism and work keep him from being fully present. As Christmas Eve approaches, Annie keeps getting false leads and Dave keeps missing her by minutes. He learns to trust the clues she gave him, and she learns that the random chain of events around their search has already changed her life by giving her the courage to show Gloria her designs. The final clue comes from one of Annie’s dresses at the Christmas market, which leads Dave to the church and then to Annie in time for the holiday service. They finally reunite in the church after all the missed connections, and the moment confirms that their first meeting was not a one-night fluke. Dave calls Annie on the spot and asks her out on a proper date, and she happily says yes. By the end of the story, both of them have found each other and also found the confidence to pursue the lives they actually want.
