    Full story (spoilers)
Adam Kade is the face of KCYD Minneapolis, a serious, ratings-conscious anchor who prides himself on delivering facts and staying emotionally detached. During the holiday season, he opens broadcasts with grim headlines about supply chain issues, holiday crime, and city problems, while at home his young fan Robbie Sullivan asks innocent but pointed questions about why the news feels so negative. Robbie’s curiosity and criticism hit a nerve, especially because Adam is already thinking about a possible career move to Chicago. Robbie’s class visits the newsroom, and the boy boldly challenges Adam in person, asking why he never smiles and why he reports so much bad news. Adam is rattled, but Robbie’s mother Lucy Somerville, who works in the salon world and is raising Robbie on her own, is even more skeptical of the news because it leaves her drained after long days. Adam offers Robbie a short internship at the station, and Lucy reluctantly agrees, giving Adam and Robbie regular after-school time together. As Robbie shadows the newsroom, Adam begins to see his job differently. Lucy tells him that people want more than facts; they want to understand why a story matters. Adam starts pitching and airing more uplifting pieces, including the charity Angel Gifts, a holiday initiative that helps families in need, and a romantic local feature about Marty, an artist who decorates a park every year for the long-lost love he met there decades earlier. The human-interest stories do more than improve ratings: they help Adam connect with the community and deepen his bond with Lucy, who sees the softer, more thoughtful version of him. At the same time, Adam’s old ambition resurfaces when he learns he has been shortlisted for a lead-anchor job in Chicago. He keeps the opportunity quiet, but the prospect of leaving Minneapolis hangs over everything. Lucy senses that Adam is building real connections with her and Robbie while still chasing a bigger dream, and she worries he will disappear just as Robbie is beginning to trust him. When Adam’s Chicago interview becomes imminent, Lucy feels betrayed that he did not tell her sooner and shuts him out, insisting she will not let Robbie get hurt. The emotional turning point comes at Robbie’s Christmas concert and live segment, where Adam and Robbie improvise a cheerful on-air holiday report. In front of the school and the station, Adam admits that the real lesson he learned from Robbie is that the best stories are not only about what happened, but about why it matters and how people feel connected to one another. He publicly states that Minneapolis is his home and that he is just getting started, signaling that he no longer sees his future as something separate from the community and people he loves. After the broadcast, Lucy and Adam finally talk honestly about his career and their feelings. Adam explains that his change in approach was real, not a manipulation to get noticed, and Lucy sees that he has genuinely changed. The movie closes with Adam realizing that his dream is no longer just the bigger job in Chicago, but the life and love he has found in Minneapolis, where he has rediscovered Christmas spirit, purpose, and the possibility of a future with Lucy.
