    Full story (spoilers)
The film opens with Allie Adams, a photographer in Willow Haven, taking backstage shots for a new play by the once-famous playwright Neil Kahn. The production is a high-stakes comeback for Neil, who has invested everything into the show. Just before the curtain rises, the lead actress, Cassandra Griffin, is found strangled in the costume room by Allie. Allie hears someone fleeing the scene but is unable to identify them in the dark. Detective Sam Acosta is assigned to the case and, despite his desire to keep Allie safe and out of police business, finds her observations and photographs indispensable. The investigation reveals several suspects: Roger Giles, an actor whose belt was used as the murder weapon; Kevin Trudeau, who was seen carrying the belt; and Mike Tremont, Cassandra's ex-boyfriend who works for a local loan shark named Tony Mac. Allie discovers that Neil Kahn is in deep financial trouble and borrowed money from Tony Mac to fund the play. Meanwhile, Allie is stalked and nearly attacked by a masked figure, leading Sam to set up a protective detail. A subplot involves Allie's friend Maya, an aspiring actress who provides insight into the theater world's dynamics. The mystery deepens when Allie finds Cassandra's missing phone and discovers evidence of a secret affair. In the climax, Allie returns to the theater to help Neil pack up props and realizes that Neil's wife, Sara Kahn, is the true killer. Sara murdered Cassandra after discovering her affair with Neil, fearing she would lose the man she had sacrificed everything for. Sara confronts Allie with a gun she claims is a prop, but it is actually a loaded weapon. Sam arrives just in time to disarm Sara and arrest the couple. The film concludes with the case closed and Allie and Sam sharing a quiet moment, hinting at a growing romantic connection.
