The premise

Heartbroken after being jilted at the altar Ava, a straight-talking urban art gallery manager, takes her honeymoon anyway and meets a charming European gentleman who shares her passion for art. However, trust and deception are an issue.

How unusual is it?

Honestly? Not very — and that's the charm. It plays the hits, which is exactly the point for a cozy night in.

Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

  • A prince travels incognito as 'Joe Alexander' on a Danube cruise to buy art and decide whether to become king.
  • The royal family treats palace art storage like a treasure hunt for a charity auction.
  • A code word, 'Regal,' is used to hide the prince's identity during a castle excursion.

Full story (spoilers)
Ava Micaleff is struggling after her engagement ends one week before her wedding, and she feels lost in her work at a Chicago gallery and in her life generally. Her friend Eugene pushes her to stop letting the paid honeymoon cruise expire, even offering to cover her weekend teaching duties at the children's hospital so she can go. Ava reluctantly agrees, hoping the trip will help her move on and reconnect with the version of herself that loved art and possibility. At the same time, Prince József of Baldonia is being pushed by his parents to make a major decision about his future and whether he wants to be king. His family also expects him to help secure art for the upcoming royal gala, so his valet Reynolds suggests a Danube cruise that will let him collect the pieces in person while he thinks. József travels under the alias Joe Alexander, hoping to remain unnoticed, and Reynolds manages the logistics as they board the Emerald Sun. Ava and József meet aboard the ship and quickly click, first over a mistaken identity and then through shared conversations about art, careers, and disappointment. He is drawn to her honesty and intelligence, and she is surprised by how easy it is to talk to him. Their connection deepens as they tour castles, dine at the captain's table, explore palace chambers, and talk candidly about past heartbreaks and self-doubt. Ava confides that her fiancé forced life-changing plans on her, while József admits that he is wrestling with expectations from his father and with his own uncertain sense of purpose. Their bond grows stronger as they pursue Austrian artist Tobias Hofler, whose work inspires Ava to rediscover her passion and to imagine building a more meaningful career. The two team up for a painting contest, share playful chemistry, and eventually kiss in front of The Kiss, making their feelings impossible to ignore. But the romance is complicated by József's secrecy, and Reynolds keeps warning him that Ava deserves the truth before things go too far. Everything unravels when a newspaper story exposes József's identity and suggests an engagement scandal, which Ava interprets as betrayal. Furious that he hid who he really was while she shared private details of her life, she shuts him out and insists that trust has been broken. József returns home to confront his father, who is far less judgmental than he feared and tells him he has always been proud, even if József has been exasperating at times. Max encourages him to be honest and follow his heart, and Reynolds helps keep the situation from spiraling further. At the royal gala, József makes his choice. He announces that Max should be king and Katrine should be queen, freeing himself from the role he has been pressured to accept. He also reveals a new vision for the family art collection: a national gallery in the palace so the public can enjoy the history that has been hidden away. With the royal family finally meeting Ava, József asks for a second chance and tells her he cannot imagine his life without her. Ava accepts that their connection was real, they agree to try a future together, and the film ends with them embracing both romance and a new beginning.
