How unusual is it?
Honestly? Not very — and that's the charm. It plays the hits, which is exactly the point for a cozy night in.

Why we’d put this one on
A genuinely cozy low-weirdness pick built around a craft you almost never see in these movies: competitive ice sculpting. Rachel Boston plays Callie, an aspiring chef whose childhood friend David, played by David Alpay, signs her up for the country club's annual Christmas ice-carving contest, which pits her against her own demanding boss, Chef Gloria, played by Brenda Strong. So you get cooking ambition, chisels and frozen blocks, and a slow-thaw romance all in one. It is light, warm, and easy to put on while you wrap presents. If you like a kitchen-adjacent lead and a tidy holiday competition, this one goes down smooth.
