    Full story (spoilers)
At Abingdon Park in New York City, Sophie helps secure the restaurant’s fourth star and gets promoted to sous chef, but the celebration is interrupted when her sister Abigail calls with bad news: the family restaurant in Montauk, the Slack Tide, is leaking, understaffed, and in danger of closing. Their late father’s place is barely breaking even, and developers keep circling, so Abigail begs Sophie to come home for a few weeks to help them get through the summer and prepare for the Fourth of July. Sophie returns to Montauk and immediately falls back into the rhythm of family life, including time with her nieces and the pressure of trying to modernize the restaurant without losing its identity. At the fish market, she reunites with Cam Easton, her childhood friend and former crush, who now works with fish and handcrafts lures. Their banter quickly reveals old feelings and new differences: Sophie is a polished city chef with big ambitions, while Cam is rooted in Montauk and still close to home. As Sophie starts testing recipes, she pushes the Slack Tide away from frozen, budget fish and toward fresher, more local seafood. Abigail wants to preserve the restaurant as a family legacy, but the business is strained by debt, slow nights, and the pressure of bad social media coverage from Marissa, a blogger who publicly mocks the restaurant. Sophie initially clashes with Abigail over whether the place should stay open, but the sisters agree that something must change if they want to keep their father’s memory alive. Sophie and Cam continue to reconnect while she sources ingredients and helps with the menu. Their conversations about family, ambition, and what they want from life become more personal, and Sophie begins to admit that she has spent so long chasing her career that she has not considered what kind of life she actually wants. Meanwhile, Evelyn James, Sophie’s demanding boss, keeps calling from the city and reminds her that she must also prepare a high-stakes dinner for investors at Evelyn’s Montauk house. The investor dinner becomes the story’s biggest test. A power outage threatens the event, and Sophie has to improvise with charcoal, candles, and whatever ingredients she can get. Instead of serving the safe, polished menu Evelyn wants, she leans into her family roots and turns out a bold seafood meal inspired by the Slack Tide’s traditions, including spicy crab cakes and grilled swordfish. The investors love it, and Evelyn offers Sophie a life-changing job as executive chef for a new Vegas restaurant. Sophie boards the path to a glamorous future, but at the last second she realizes that the opportunity is not enough if it pulls her away from the people and place that matter most. She turns back, tells Evelyn she quits, and chooses Montauk on her own terms. In the end, the Slack Tide has renewed momentum, Sophie’s family is relieved, and she and Cam finally acknowledge that they want the same thing: a future together in the town they both love.
