    Wait, what?

The quirks and curveballs that make this one a little weirder than your average Hallmark. No spoilers, promise.

    • Alex moves into the apartment building with a dog sled and a giant gong
    • The characters consult a fortune teller for a counterspell to remove the curse

    Full story (spoilers)
Betty Baldwin lives by numbers, risk tables, and worst-case scenarios, but her personal life is ruled by a much less rational fear: she believes she has been cursed since middle school. At her best friend Mya’s wedding planning sessions, Betty’s history of disastrous boyfriends comes up again and again, including the original incident with Bobby Grimwood and Eleni Vrakos, who supposedly hexed her after a crush triangle went wrong. Betty insists she is simply realistic, while Mya keeps trying to get her to believe she deserves a happy ending. Betty’s life gets shaken up when Alex, a charming field photographer, moves into the apartment above hers. Their first interactions are awkward and comedic, including a chaotic elevator malfunction and a dog-sled surprise in the building, but Betty is immediately drawn to him. Alex is adventurous, upbeat, and unbothered by danger, which makes him both irresistible and terrifying to Betty. She agrees to drinks, then a hike, then more time together, even as she notices how quickly she starts imagining every possible accident that could happen to him. As Betty and Alex grow closer, their differences become the central tension in the romance. He wants to explore, travel, and take risks; she wants safety, predictability, and control. Betty keeps trying to convince herself that he is too dangerous for her, even after he proves kind and patient, and even after his sister Amy reassures her that Alex is old-fashioned, sincere, and deeply devoted once he cares about someone. Meanwhile, Betty’s friends and coworkers keep reminding her that her obsession with bad luck may be sabotaging her own happiness. In an effort to break the supposed curse, Betty asks her coworker Nelson for help tracing Eleni Vrakos through records, and she even consults fortune teller Madame Vadoma for a counterspell. At the same time, wedding problems pile up for Mya and Raul, and Betty’s attempt to prevent every possible disaster grows more frantic. She eventually pushes Alex away, believing she is protecting him from the same fate that has haunted her other relationships. But when a major fire breaks out at the retrofitted Allistor building tied to Betty’s work, the story proves that danger exists whether she dates or not, and Alex’s bravery and selflessness become impossible to ignore. After Alex risks his life to help during the fire and the construction team is saved, Betty is forced to confront the truth: the curse is not real, and her fear has been driving the breakup cycle all along. Eleni finally admits the old hex was just something she made up to sound mysterious, and Betty realizes she has been living for years as though that childhood story were fate. With the illusion shattered, Betty and Alex reconcile, Betty embraces uncertainty, and the two commit to each other without trying to control the future. The movie ends with their wedding and a hopeful epilogue in which Betty chooses trust, love, and adventure over superstition.
