The premise

Former lawyer Samara works with her old rival Nate to organise an anniversary celebration in Queensland. Their work together makes them revisit their past.

How unusual is it?

Honestly? Not very — and that's the charm. It plays the hits, which is exactly the point for a cozy night in.

Full story (spoilers)
Samara has left law to build an event-planning business in Seattle, although her father and former colleagues keep questioning that choice. Her best friend Liv asks her to travel to Queensland to finish planning Liv's parents' fortieth-anniversary trip. Samara agrees to help recreate Peter and Caroline's love story using their journals, scrapbooks and favourite places. Fireworks are especially important to the couple. The yacht's captain turns out to be Nate, Samara's former law colleague. Nate returned to Queensland to help his family after his father became ill and now works in the charter business with his younger brother Billy. Samara and Nate still blame each other for a case they lost, and their different approaches immediately cause friction. Liv asks them to work together for the anniversary week. The anniversary activities take the group to beaches, restaurants and places from Peter and Caroline's courtship. Samara and Nate grow closer through shared outings and conversations. They finally discuss the disputed witness in their old case: Nate says the witness's timeline changed, while Samara explains why she had wanted to take the risk. They acknowledge their different perspectives and agree to talk through future disagreements. Nate wants to return to law on his own terms, particularly youth advocacy through The Barlow Project. Samara offers to help through her father's contacts. A referral mix-up leads Nate to believe she is competing for the same position, although Samara has not sought the job. She tells her father that event planning is the career she wants, and he apologizes for pushing her back toward law. Nate cancels fireworks from the yacht because they violate his safety rules. Samara's separate backup barge then breaks down, leaving her unable to find another launch platform before curfew. Billy explains the job misunderstanding to Nate and urges him to listen to Samara. Peter and Caroline renew their vows while Samara continues trying to complete the celebration. In the closing conversation, Samara and Nate clear up the misunderstanding. Nate says he has an in-person interview at The Barlow Project in Seattle the following week and does not want to lose her again. They agree that their relationship will continue beyond the trip. The dialogue supports their reconciliation and career intentions, without establishing every visual detail of the final celebration.
