A Machu Picchu Proposal

Katie is still at school during summer break when her twin brother Dan surprises her with a trip to Peru. He wants her to meet Luciana’s family and help sell him as the perfect future husband, and Katie reluctantly agrees because she never says no to Dan for long. Even before they arrive, the trip is framed as a mix of family diplomacy, culinary adventure, and a carefully planned proposal. Once in Peru, Katie is pulled into Dan’s increasingly elaborate plan to propose to Luciana at Machu Picchu. Dan wants every detail perfect, including a hidden 360 camera, a sunset backdrop, and the right emotional build, while Katie tries to keep the plan from collapsing under the weight of everyone’s competing ideas. As the group travels through Cusco and the Sacred Valley, Katie and Carlos are repeatedly thrown together through food-centered excursions: a chocolate-making class, an empanada stop, a visit to the salt mines, a detour to an alpaca farm, and a road trip toward Rainbow Mountain. Katie is the practical planner; Carlos is the improviser who believes experiences matter more than rigid schedules. Their banter turns increasingly personal as they talk about family, cooking, failed relationships, and the way people can be transformed by travel and shared meals. The romance between Katie and Carlos grows while Dan’s proposal logistics become more chaotic. A night of altitude sickness, a wool allergy, a lost ring scare, and Carlos’s growing suspicion that Katie may feel more for him than she admits all push Katie out of her comfort zone. Katie also reveals that her last relationship left her afraid to trust her feelings again, which makes her attraction to Carlos even more unsettling. Carlos, in turn, admits that he has been living with tunnel vision, focused on his future restaurant but increasingly drawn to Katie’s warmth and intelligence. When Luciana is injured and the proposal plan appears in danger, Katie and Dan finally confront how much of the trip has been driven by fear of imperfection. Katie realizes that Carlos has been right about spontaneity, and Dan realizes he does not need a flawless script to speak from the heart. The family tensions ease when everyone embraces the idea that love is about the essential ingredients, not the perfect recipe. In the end, Dan proposes with a sincere speech about Luciana being both his heart and his grounding force, and she says yes. Katie and Carlos also acknowledge the connection that has been building between them, and the film closes on celebration, dancing, and the sense that both siblings have found something life-changing in Peru.
